Smoked from 12 to 58...63 now ( cough, cough, mild copd now, v few cigarettes comparatively), but after 40 it always gave me tachycardia...and it was hippy weed, too. Regardless if indica or sativa. Idiosyncratic reactions happen in responses to almost all drugs, though.
And herb, plants, "natural" or synthetic, are all drugs/poisons at their core.
If something, ingested by whatever means, elicits a physiological/chemical change in metabolism, pain response, bp, hr, etc, it is a drug by definition.
Synthetic vs natural makes no difference. One's body cannot detect the source; it's just differing molecules to our electrochemical system and chemo-receptors.
Differing functional groups make the difference in how the molecule links into a specific receptor...or not, an if a response occurs or not.
Good example is dextromethorphan and codeine. Dextromethorphan has a methoxy group, codeine has a hydroxyl group, affecting their pharmacological properties. One tiny tweak. It's how they make designer drugs, too. Both stop cough, but only codeine gets you high. Codeine is metabolized to morphine in the liver. (Robotrippin is an exception to above) .
I babble. Not high. Straight is my high now. Better.
