I spent my childhood summers going barefoot. I only wore shoes to church. One summer I walked around with a fairly large piece of glass in my foot. I finally let my Dad remove it a week before school.
The good ole days lol. I just had to watch out for honey bees. I am highly allergic. That was late 60's. Now, there are few, if any, around due to the parish spraying incessantly for mosquitoes
It's sad about the Honey Bees. I've seen a resurgence of Bumble Bees where I live, I have lots of flowers around my front porch and backyard. The seem to love Begonias. Our little town has urged people to let their grass grow longer (no problem for me), and I leave the Dandelions alone. Our town has several areas of Wildflowers that are left alone to bloom, and it's definitely helped.

This is interesting, same here. Few honey bees and yellow jackets but fair amount of bumble bees.
May have to try that here
