She is 76 she is very sharp! She got a email last week from social security saying that she was going to get 1700 a month instead of he measly 300 a month, and a back pay 20000 for the past year! She checked in her account this afternoon, and it was all true! I couldn’t believe it and she couldn’t believe it!

Did she ever work as a teacher or state worker? I worked for the state, and I recently got over $7k and my monthly amount will just about double.
Previously the feds penalized workers who had worked jobs that didn't pay into Social Security, even when they had earned enough points. Recent legislation corrects that.

They called that a “windfall” if you got a (relatively small) retirement from a job that had its own retirement plan.
Most teachers, state workers, etc. wouldn’t call their measly retirement plan a “windfall” because you also earned SS points at a different job you once held and paid into SS. They basically stole the money. Probably for USAID bs.
