Jackson Hewitt probably charges $150 per tax return. While it is possible to get big bucks from the earned income tax credits (in CA you can get up to $6k back), most don't even recoup as much as it cost to file the tax return in the first place. This is a ploy by Jackson Hewitt to solicit business for themselves by promising big $ in exchange for filing the return when they know most won't get big $.
