I believe it is a bit more nuanced. I can only speak of my own country Denmark, but DK and NO are quite similar in many aspects (except Norway is not in the EU, but has special trade agreements).
Here in DK it is ridiculously expensive to buy a car! The price of a car is comprised of it's base price from the manufacturer for a new car, and the market price for a used car.
We don't manufacture cars other than perhaps for a tiny niche, so all our cars are basically imported. If the car is imported from outside the EU, the there are tariffs of about 10%. Within EU there are no tariffs. On top of this comes VAT, which in Denmark is 25%, regardless of the product. On top of this comes a "registration charge", which is a charge you have to pay to get the license plates, necessary to be allowed to drive the vehicle. This registration charge depends on the base price of the car. You pay 85% for the base price up to about 200k, then 150% for the rest.
When we buy one car, we essentially pay for 2-3 cars. The tariffs are just a tiny part of the price, and only for origin countries outside the EU. It is so expensive to sell cars here (even from within the EU), that some manufacturers lower their base price, just to sell it here...
That's insane...
It's probably cheaper to drive a tractor.
Huge swedish meatballs on display ... imagine a 200hp international cub....Not exactly the most stable vehicle even with the stock 9hp engine...
That’s bullshit.
What is bullshit? It's the fact that Europe puts huge tariffs on American products.
I think Westiemom3 meant it's bullshit what Denmark does relating too the Fees. I could be wrong..
That’s exactly what I meant. Thanks for clarifying.
Well that obviously is bullshit. Europe should abolish all tariffs that they have on the USA.
