Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

So I'd switched to Brave browser a few months/year ago across all my devices. The past couple weeks on my Android phone Brave had been glitchy with slow loading tabs upon switching. Then yesterday trying to search for something the results show for about a half second then the whole tab goes blank.
I've got a question going on their support community and wondering what I may switch to next. Just in case. Thinking Firefox probably. I've liked Brave and no issues other than my phone so hopefully can get it squared away.
Any browser suggestions?
https://www.ecosia.org/
It’s a Russian browser. I can find things here I can’t find on google, brave, etc. Be aware there’s spam links, look at the info on links before clicking. If you like games they are free, ads you can close and not click. https://yandex.com/
I found these online a while back. Probably not for every day searches. A couple of them I’ve used for herb studies I’ve never found on any mainstream search sites.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents. 70% of them are free!
I searched google alternatives, unbiased, non tracking search engines on ecosia. These are a few results. I skimmed them, can’t verify if they are good. FYI: DuckDuckGo is owned by google. It’s usually recommended over google, probably by paid google supporters.

I would love to find a search engine for clothes, house products, beauty products etc that doesn’t put Amazon, eBay, target, Walmart in the results. Can’t find anything useful anymore and the local stores suck.
EDIT!! I searched google, ecosia & yandex: vitamins & minerals in an egg. I got the exact same results in google & ecosia. Yandex I got most of the same gov (USA, UK & other countries), health sites probably by the gov. Except on Yandex I also got links by well known doctors that have social media and YouTube accounts, they talk about natural remedies and heathy foods.
