In the short term, it's bad. In the long term, I think churches would benefit from getting out from under government control and scrutiny.
We used to be able to get information on where politicians stood on spiritual matters, like abortion. Then that freedom of expression was removed churches.
Will this apply to mosques and synagogues also?
If you think eliminating charitable status is the end of governments trying to control the churches, you weren't paying attention during COVID lockdown in Canada.
What it would do is eliminate the churches' reason to cooperate. All the burden would shift to the government to force the churches to comply. It would be better than it is now
Plenty of lockdowns here in the states, but I believe it was the threat of losing the tax deduction that kept most in line.

She tried, but the leadership race was cooked to let Andrew Scheer win. I don't think she ran against PP.
She ran for leader in 2020 when O'Toole was installed and again in 2022 when Smol PP was installed. Besides Maxime Bernier she is one of the most conservative voices in Canadian politics today.

Usually historically moves like this is preceded by the realization whether public or private. The State is in dismal financial states.
