Start digging into the real dirt on this man, he's simply trying to save his own skin. I don't think he truly believes any of what he's saying. He's a snake and a really evil one at that. There's not a shred of honesty or human decency in him. Even the devil will use just enough truth in order to deceive us, that's how deception works just enough truth sprinkled in with the lies to make it at least plausible.
