You don't know what you are talking about. And you underestimate how "woke" manifests itself in the world of science. It is an expensive showpiece to display to the world of how elevated and deeply committed to KNOWLEDGE the governing powers are. But, like all idolatry, it is an Empty Temple. Like the Emperor's New Clothes, no one will say it is naked. Too much patronage is at stake...on empty careers.
You've seen this (too many careers) already as an outcome of the DOGE discoveries, and you cannot believe it happens in science? Open your mind to the new reality.
White Hats had CERN shut down the Hadron Collider at one point. They do not call their own shots. Switzerland is busted; it is not neutral, it is cabal, and none of it is secret any longer.

I wish the Government was MORE committed to Knowledge, a good IQ test for Congress would weed out the AOC's and Corey Booker's, ect.
Do you really think that I am closed minded because I point out that CERN isn’t producing a great deal of scientific data in comparison to the cost and number of those employed and therefore is likely not being used for it’s “stated” purpose? Have you run a search on the various arms attached to cern and the multiple different possible uses? I am not a physicist admittedly but why are you more of an expert than any of us? What are YOUR sources and why are they more accurate than the financial versus gain that is so obvious? You can’t just cry woke and that be good enough. Woke gets broke by the money day in and day out. Somebody is funding it and there is a reason. You can be condescending all you want but it isn’t going to change my mind that money pits aren’t allowed to exist without a reason. No way am I gonna trust the scientist that they are just burning grant money with no gain and it’s fine. Something else is happening or being made and somebody is looking to profit in either money or power from it. The new reality is assume those in power likely don’t have your best interest at heart.

There is no difference between CERN and any number of government agencies with lofty names, large budgets, large staffs, and no tangible output. It's "stated purpose" is a futility. I am more of an expert because I am a physicist and understand how a synchrotron works and what it is used for. In this case, collisions between relativistic protons, which develop a multitude of transient particles (mesons) that require different instrumentation to detect and measure.
There is no financial gain to primary research and there never has been. You might as well cavil at astronomers and their telescopes, because they can observe multiple objects. Somebody was funding woke and there was a reason: fad, and virtue signalling. Same thing for high-energy particle research. You just don't like the answer because it does not ring your chimes. But, here you are, ignorant of the science, ignorant of the technology, ignorant of the world of academic research, and you can't believe the honest truth. The grant scientist will never admit there is no gain, and will (to his dying breath) contend they are making great strides in understanding the universe. They do contend this. And nothing that they "find" makes a damn bit of difference.
Of course those in power don't have your best interest at heart. The vain scientists are fully committed to the CONCEIT that their pursuits are for the best interest of HUMANITY, but their delusion is not reality. And they have sufficiently convinced the funding agencies that their New Clothes are really wonderful, and please give me money for more new clothes. And they do.
If you read "Perelandra" by C. S. Lewis, he gives an example of the banality of evil. That is what this is. It is Evil by way of parasitism, for the sake of perpetuating a vain conceit bordering on hoax. Very banal. It is the one thing behind this that no one would suspect---even otherwise doubtful anons. (They would all probably roll over in gut-splitting laughter if they were told that people thought they were summoning demons.)
First thank you for the recommendation. I have not read Perelandia and I love CS Lewis. I think most of the inklings buried spiritual truth in their work and I am looking forward to reading it. Moving on. Explaining your perspective with out the assumptions or condescension allows for discovery. Its "stated purpose" is a futility“- so was USAID but thankfully some pulled the thread in THAT sweater. Those are the exact agencies the bad guys use to cover up their misappropriation of funds. These are the exact agencies that NEED to have any inconsistency questioned.

And they do.” Which makes them ideal candidates for being the patsys to laundry money through. They may be too blinded by their idealogy to care who they are funded by or covering for. The discussion has been very enlightening and I appreciate the view into academia. I stand by my point. There is entirely too much money that has fallen into that hole for it to not be useful to the bad guys.
If you want to read Perelandra, be advised that it is the second book in a trilogy. The first is Out of the Silent Planet. The third is That Hideous Strength. There is something to be gained by taking them in order. Much more adult in contemplation than the Narnia stories. (From the last one, you will never again hear someone refer to the head of an organization without flinching.)
It would not surprise me if the CERN people have found ways to accommodate many barnacles on their ship of discovery. These research hobby-horses are not called "ricebowls" for nothing.
Q: What is the difference between a new CERN report and no CERN report?
A: About 20 sheets of paper. Both have no meaningful content. 8>)
