Another post prompted me to make this one. It was about the Republicans introducing a "Transparency" bill about government spending.

But that requirement is already called for in the US Constitution. Which is the SUPREME law of the land. Specifically, it is one of the provisions covered in Article 1, Section 9 of said document. Did you know that? If not, WHY not? Few things will affect our lives as much as the protections guaranteed (not granted) by the Constitution. We should all know as much about it as possible and I propose a Constitution class be conducted right here at gaw.

Here is the pertinent section: Article 1 Section 9 (in part) "No money shall be drawn from the Treasury but in consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public money shall be published from time to time."

Who makes the laws? Congress is the sole body charged with that duty. Also covered in the Constituion, (Article 1 Section 1.) That's how important those who wrote the document believed the creation of laws to be. First Article, First Section.

And did you know that originally, the founders intended for US Senators to be elected by each state's legislature? That was later changed by I believe, the 27th amendment. So now the people vote for both the house of representatives and the senate. But WHY did the founders believe the states should elect the US Senators? And what would that mean to our country, today, if that had not changed? How often have the states had a republican majority in their state congresses? And wouldn't they be likely to 'hire' republicans for the US Senate positions? Think about that. TWO republican US Senators from a majority of states and we wouldn't have these close calls on votes.

Sorry for the rant. I do believe we would all benefit from studying the Constitution at least as much as we've studied the Q drops.
