If I could predict the future, I'd already be Bezos-level wealthy.
You can probably glean clues from the past about how things might go.
I think you're right, humans seem to have the ability to push the pendulum too far in both directions. We've swung way to far "left" and now see the beginnings of a swing "right" (I hate those terms, but just go with it). Most people really do want the pendulum to stay in the middle - tolerance and equality for everyone as much as possible. But once that pendulum is in full swing, sometimes it's hard to stop it going too far.
Positive things habbening: the traditional mass media, which can push the pendulum in whatever direction is expedient (and history has shown they'll flip sides in an instant), seem to be getting systematically neutered. Corruption, the proceeds of which have been the weight behind the pendulum swinging, is being exposed and (hopefully) rooted out.
Negative things: There are long-growing and deep animosities under the surface. Wrath and Envy are two of the seven deadly sins that we all struggle against. The longer the pendulum stays on one side, the more likely the people affected will be all too willing to push it along past the center once they get a chance to turn the tables. It will feel like justice at the time, but it's something else entirely.
