Vatican II did a giant flipflop on what traditional Catholicism taught. They wanted to temper what was an absolute closed door to anyone outside of the Catholic Church. But this was outright heresy to centuries of papal and council documents. It proved to be a disingenuous argument in order to promote ecumenical and interfaith dialogue for reasons that appear to be conspiratorial towards uniting all world religions under the papacy.
