I was shocked to learn (at least here in New England), that when you order a grave stone / marker, you pick out from a catalog and they ship the raw stone to China to be shaped / chiseled or if the stone is local to China, they quarry it there.
In what world is the costs to ship a 100 - 300 lb stone around the world twice cheaper than sourcing and chiseling it here?
A world where ethnic slavery is still an enforced practice in some countries.
Wow, and consider how much fuel we waste moving that stone back and forth. That's a lot of diesel.
