Protectionism and free trade are non-party based policy positions. RINO, non-RINO, democrat, republican- party affiliation doesn't really matter much.

What does matter however, is a particular politicians personal affiliations with their corporate backers and, their other income source's and, how those [income sources] corporations are affected by tariff's, or free trade agreements. That's the big motivating factor for most of those politicians on the tariff issue.

I'm pretty sure if we simply follow the money, the truth behind why Rand and his dad's horseshit position on tariffs would plainly reveal itself.
