... everything to the west and south of the San Andreas line is on the Pacific Plate, and everything to the east and north is on the North America plate... two entirely different tectonic plates. Everything on the Pacific Plate will be subject to immense destruction when that time comes and will be much worse off than the mainland of the US.
Sacramento is not ON, but it is close enough east of the San Andreas fault that it will certainly be shaken, but not suffer like San Francisco, LA, and other cities to the west of the fault will.
