Foundations, like Open Society and the Rockefeller Foundation, donate to the ACLU. These foundations in turn get part of their money from USAID either directly or by way of another NGO that receives the money. It is a layered handoff of taxpayer funding in order to hide the source. They have many ways to take advantage of federal taxpayer money. In essence we have been paying for our own destruction.
Hopefully by turning off the spigot radical liberal organizations like the ACLU will not be able to fund the lawfare, protests, election interference, illegal alien resources, etc. So yes, loss of funding may have played a role in this case. Especially, if the case was falling apart anyway as the article states. Limited money supply forces places like the ACLU to be more selective with the cases they take versus just carpet bombing the system. I have also noticed even the protests are not as large. Activists generally do not fund this crap out of their own pocket - they use our money.
I wonder if USAID was also involved with funding the ACLU.
That might help explain dropping the suit.

My thoughts is USAID was paying. Actually, you, myself and everyone here was being taxed and put in debt to pay for our own destruction.
