Midwives are usually a lot less expensive. And the care is much, much, much better. You can have them attend home births but also some have birthing centers.
I had both mine without insurance- first in 1977 small town hospital -$650.
Second in big city - no insurance but signed up for cash payment 1991 - $850 ( I got the print out of the bill if it had been insurance $3400- they charged ridiculous amounts for sanitary pads etc- what a racket
Can confirm the ~3500 out of pocket with insurance from 2014 and 2018. For second I really wanted to do home birth and insurance covers none, but the price would’ve been about the same anyway. Problem is finding a midwife who has hospital permissions should you have an emergency and need to go to hospital.
I had no insurance both times I was pregnant. The doctor and hospital both worked a cash plan for me so I had the 9 months of pregnancy to get it paid, and it was no where near even $5000. That was in 1990 and 1999

Everything costs more with insurance.
Yes, it's a scam.
The general rule is that it costs about $10k to come into this world, and another $10k to leave it 😂
Right. If you follow all the medical procedures they prescribed.
