This is something I never would have called in a million years. The first American pope has been selected. Robert Francis Prevost is the new pope. Reporting live from Italy here, and laughing my heart out as everyone around me is somewhat stunned.

Most people have historically not trusted people in power. It is taught to and known by public school kids that power is a corrupting influence.
