Suez has become a critical maritime choke point for USA. China has its eye on the Red Sea (not because of good intentions I presume) and Israel could become an ex-military base. Egypt is tending towards BRICs, possibly because of financial reasons, but finance may be followed by military realignment. An insightful essay worth reading:
