I saw this take on Peter Pan a couple months ago on p.w when it was posted. I dont think the Mad Hatter nor the Cheshire Cat have that level of sinister undertone.
You could be right. A young man who steals a young girl away in the night is a nightmare for most parents. On the other hand, Alice's world seems a lot more chaotic and overtly threatening. I suppose it's more about how the stories are symbolically used by those who communicate with them. Scavino knows what he means. Me, I'm just guessing.
Peter Pan and never-neverland seem to have a better vibe, more protective, than what Alice got in wonderland. Just my take.
