I personally don’t really see why this category of earnings is made exempt from taxation when so many other things are taxed. Arbitrary. Now Social Security…just think what we could have had if we had just been “contributing” to our own retirement instead of a government program. I don’t even have a problem with mandatory contributions to a program as long as it is a personal one which remains with the person after death.
