The rainbow is a simple phenomenon, explained in many places. Light can reflect internally through a raindrop and come back out with chromatic dispersion: different angles for different wavelengths. Same effect as a prism. The usual rainbow has one internal reflection. There is a second rainbow having two internal reflections, but it is fainter and farther out than the first rainbow. In strong daylight, you can see it in the spray of a lawn sprinkler.
