Even in the desert they have no place, there are actual wildlife ecosystems there and the fragmentation of the natural habitat leads to the spread of invasive plants which are generally way more susceptible to wildfires than the native were. I live in the high desert out west and an area that was once called "the meadows", is now a solar farm tumbleweed jungle that has pushed out the pronghorn that used to covet the area
