Covenant? Yes but they broke it. Promise? Yes but they went after other 'gods'. They aren't cast off forever but they are hardly to be placed on a pedestal.
Also, I'm talking about Jews as in religion and ancestors which is way different than those who set up shop in the created country we call Israel today. The area is the same, the people aren't.
