Agreed. My father, a very smart man, said that medical insurance was the beginning of the end for good medical care. He was against all insurance, on principle. He passed 45 years ago - he'd be appalled by America today.
Doctor came to your house and took care of you, probably for the cost of a bushel of apples.
People went to see a doctor, and paid a bill. Just like when you get a brake job on your car.
They did have catastrophic insurance (hospital) for big expenses. Along with charity organizations/people for the poor.
IMO not great, but better than now.
