Born and raised on Maui bud. I know the drive very well. The lack of connecting roads is not solely her fault. The connecting roads are all old ranch roads from wailea and Makena to Kula. The reason there’s no old king’s trail that connected the whole island is because of the la peruse lava flow from 1790 that wiped out that old southeast part of Maui. It’s just red lava there now and some horse trails. NASA tests out mars equipment on Haleakala and parts of that lava flow.
