It's interesting that the usgs called this an 8.8 when the tsunami was pretty much just localized. This is more like what an 8.0 would be like, which is what all the other countries are saying including Russia.
Now dutchsinse on YouTube says so far it's similar to the big 9.0 in fukoshima in that the aftershocks are big and spread out over hundreds of miles. I guess in 2011 there was first a high 7 and many 5 and 6 aftershocks across a big area for 2 days before the big one.
There isn't enough evidence to say this is only the foreshocks before a big one but it's something to keep in the back of your mind
