Tourists that plan to stay that extended period of time that need to apply for a visa should also put up a bond.
If I had to guess most tourists that visit the USA stay a few days, weeks or not even a month tops. So losing a bond isn't a concern for those people that stay for a short period of time.
But in fairness I can see how it may deter some tourists so you do have a valid point.
For many countries, you need a visa to just enter the US legally, even for just a day.
For someone from South Africa like u/purkiss88 will need to put down R270,000 as a bond, which is quite a bit more than a year's income for the average South African.
It is ridiculous. How many tourists that come to the US has $15,000 to put up as bond? I get the idea, but tourism will come to a screeching halt.
