Abbott is trying a rare move to bypass the normal method of kicking someone out of the TxLeg and it is possible it will work.
For the house to expel them it would require 100 votes (out of a possible 150) to expel. Oh - and it would require a quorum, which is the whole problem. Republicans only hold 88 votes. A quorum in Texas is actually 2/3 of the members - which is 100. An amendment bill was submitted in 2021 to only require a simple majority (76) after the dems did this move before. I didn't see where it passed, and I don't remember it being on my ballot.
