Exactly, it's been my experience that God communicates to those who know Him in different ways. For me it has been numbers and patterns, which are rampant throughout the Bible as you just described with 40's. You will see 12's, 7's(perfection), 3's etc.
I've always found it fascinating that the element Carbon (the building block of life). has 6 protons, neutrons and electrons. The number of man is 666, some would seem a strange coincidence, which I attribute to His divine providence.
Of course there has to be discernment used, as you can get carried away, but like I said I just think this is another way the Lord reveals himself too us. To me it's like seeing thousands of pieces (which I just don't have the comprehension to complete the puzzle) but nonetheless some come together and give me a glimpse of something infinity greater than myself. Praise the Lord!
The magic numbers: 12s, 7s, 3s and 40s. To my mind, these are part of an important record and word. God is telling us something important here, something about Him, about the meaning behind the story of the Bible, which is essentially the story of God's work to accomplish salvation.
Funny, thing, I also read about the Carbon and 666 a long time ago, the idea here being that Carbon represents material life, and that the devil's hold on man is connected to his hold on our physical life.

I guess I would say that my conviction is that the Scripture is just like the Q board. Or rather, the Q board is an image, a reflection of the scripture: future proves past.
Full illumination of the meaning of the scripture is something that is revealed over time, and at some point, on by looking back on what has unfolded does the meaning become clear.
But, just as Q exhorted anons to think outside the box (Expand your thinking) in order to get the bigger picture that illuminates the meaning of the drops, the history of Christianity so far has been effort made towards that end, and yet, the puzzle has been completed by and large by the theologians. My personal conviction, however, is that the puzzle can indeed be clearly illuminated and understood. But a lot depends on the starting point. The framework one brings to the 'view'.
It is as you stated; the mark of that one is 666, and I do agree in Rev it does appoint to an individual not mankind as a whole. However, I do also find it interesting how in 1 Kings 10:14 and 2nd Chronicles 9:13 it reads that Solomon received 666 talents of gold each year (*in addition to what he received from merchants, traders, various kings etc). My interpretation of this depicting the full representation of the sin that had corrupted man. Solomon would have been everything a worldly man would strive for and yet in the end as he states it was all "striving after the wind, vanity upon vanity". God gives us Solomon as an example that mankind to prove nothing can satisfy us outside of Him, as that is our purpose, to glorify God and worship Him forever.
I just those particular verses stand out to me (among others) as Paul says ultimately we will either be a slave to righteousness or a slave to sin.

The number of “a” man. The number is also referred to as “his”. So more an individual than fallen humanity. Important distinction.
