Actually Myelin is 25-28% cholesterol. Still very important.There are papers that associate dementia with not only low HDL-C levels but also more so it’s High levels of HDL-C levels. Statins have been shown to reduce risks of dementia by 13% in those with high levels of HDL-C (>65 mg/dl). Granted all these studies are observational studies. It would take decades to see the results of a double blind study. So not practical.
It may imply that fluctuations in HDL-C may be an issue …not enough data yet.
Recommend finding an Internist you trust and then trust their judgement. Especially if there are Cardiac risks…what good is being mentally intact and yet, Heaven Forbid, has a potentially avoidable cardiac event.
