Ugh. When I was doing pen-testing for a living I did a 2-week contract for a large communications company in China. It was crazy, and they did things like requiring us to leave our hard drives there overnight so we couldn't sell/steal their info. I made a Linux live CD based on Knoppix (before we left the US), and added our "hack tools" to the CDs. We got new HDDs for the assessment data, and left them onsite each night. None of our sources/methods were on those HDs so we could protect OUR stuff. It worked for both parties. Before we returned home we wiped the HDDs and shredded the CDs, then disassembled the drives, destroyed the platters, and disposed of them. Lots of work but pretty much required.

While we were there we were treated as executives (even had our own person that emptied ash trays and brought us whatever we asked for), and were given privileges like having the key to the executive bathrooms and breakrooms. They had modern facilities like actual toilets, and provided free drinks, food, and snacks in the breakrooms. I went into the normal bathroom for employees once and it just had the holes in the floor - no toilets. Squat holes.

t doesn't surprise me for a second that the Chinese would chew chicken feet.
