Lately, in driving down my town's main drag, I've noticed the median is now marked by a central curb on which is mounted a continuous barrier iron fence about 6 feet tall. "What the heck?" I thought. And then it hit me: this is a way to prevent people from jaywalking across 6 lanes of traffic in order to not go to the nearest crosswalk. Frankly, I approve. Jaywalking is a 200-pound bet against 4,000-pound machines.
