Does anyone find it strange he has a cam recording himself while driving? Do truck drivers have to do that or something?

Yes, many OTR companies and some locals one too, are installing inboard dash cams that usually only record out to the front, some do have driver facing cams too so that they can see what the driver was doing in instances like this. The insurance companies are dropping rates for companies to do this so many are jumping on board.
