Trump said straight out that the reason he wanted Bolton on his team was to intimidate the other side when negotiating.

If Trump walked into a room for a negotiation with other countries, and Bolton walked in with him, the other side KNEW that Bolton was a crazy zealot for war and destruction.

Bolton served a purpose, and then Trump booted him.

Doubtful he would take Bolton's word on anything, without further confirmation from others.
