It is the referent to which the quotation refers. Meaning, don't get wrapped-up in prediction of the time, since there will be plenty of meaningless portents and false alarms.

And if it doesn't arrive as you anticipate? Do you renounce your faith at the disappointment? I'm not expecting it. If it arrives, it will be no different than death: unexpected, final, and at the mercy of Christ.
