I remember when I first heard of "giants" in the Bible. My image was of 30-foot tall people, which I dismissed as ridiculous.
However, people have calculated that Goliath was over 9 feet tall (not 30).
We have a documented case in the 20th Century of the tallest man measuring 8'11".
So, not all that crazy, after all -- especially if people were healthier back then.
There is a story of Herodotus. He was the first known historian.
He was Greek and lived about 2,500 years ago (when the Greeks were kicking ass and taking names with all their discoveries).
He traveled around the Middle East (by foot, of course) and talked to people and recorded their understanding of history up until then.
He spoke with an Ethiopian king (they were White back then -- and if you look closely, you will see that the Ethiopians today have White facial features with black skin, due to the race mixing that came later).
This king was recounting his conversation with a Persian king or other high official (they were also White, back then), and talking about their different diets and lifespans.
The Persian said their people ate mostly bread and basically a plant-based diet and lived about 70 years, assuming they survived infancy (and maternal childbirth).
The Egyptian king was shocked and said, "No wonder your people live such short lives, eating dirt. Our people eat only meat of our cattle and milk of our cows, and we live 120 years."
The Bible says humans are supposed to live about 120 years, and modern research shows that our telomeres (proteins in our chromosomes) are such that we should be living about 120 years.
Interesting coincidence!
People lived MUCH longer back then than what modern historians claim -- except for women dying during childbirth, children who did not survive, as well as major injuries that could not be healed and of course WAR!

Avoid all that, and you likely lived a long life.
