You can purchase distilled water, or a quality RO filter to create safe water at home. You just don't want any impurities from city water - as DMSO 'carries' anything mixed with it into the body. It is often used in mainstream medical practice by using pharmaceutically compounded creams/lotions to carry anti-inflammatory and pain-killing drugs into the body. For example: I had a cream for neck pain due to a collapsed disk that incorporated DMSO and ketamine and lidocaine to ease the pain.
City water, while "safe" to drink - contains all manner of residual drugs (think birth control, anti-depressants, etc.) that you don't want in your body. Thus, the requirement for 'pure' water to mix it with.
Interesting, it sort of amplifies whatever is in the water. Yikes. That could be good or bad. Thanks for the warning and the info, txpenguin. (Hey, what are you doing out of the Antarctic?)
