I had the same problem yesterday without a VPN but my VPN got me back in. Today I rebooted my router to get a different IP address and that fixed it without needing the VPN.

So I recommend that everyone without a fixed IP address try rebooting their router.

I thought this was in relation to the site running slow.

So this is a global attack on the site to prevent people around the world from seeing it?

I’m going to say it was DNS. The vpn like would get around DNS but a router reboot or upstream DNS update would fix this.
