They nearly were. It was so very close to complete and public strangulation to follow if Mondale had been installed as planned. Now they try again by 2030, but with Chevron Doctrine (1984) now fully neutralized (28JUN2024), and an inability to administratively garrote us all (40 years later, ugh...).
