Part of what made Charlie's assassination so powerful and visceral was the combination of its brutality and that it was on video for the world to see. When a death row inmate goes the chair or receives the lethal injections, it is not broadcast for the world to see. It is not bloody and brutal like this was. The death penalty has lost its desired effect to much of society because it's not real until they are in the room.
I'm not suggesting all executions be broadcast, but for this? Yeah, public hanging or firing squad. It might actually wake up the next potential shooter.
