I was in Memphis a couple time on business. One time I got lost going to hotel. I stopped at a gas station to ask directions. When I exited my rental, I pulled on door to enter inside station and it was locked. I then walked up to window and noticed it was think bullet proof glass. This station was friggin locked down.
I look up and out and saw a pack of black people running from across street toward me. I think the person behind the glass told me I better get out of there. I wasted zero time jumping back in rental car and speeding off.
That happened to me in Kansas City in the 1980's ! I got of the interstate to get gas and drove into an all black neighborhood. The east Indian behind the glass was yelling at me to go away and that I should not be there. I told him I was out of gas and he let me fill the tank. Didn't get attacked but lots of black folks looking at me as I drove along.
I had them come out in the road on me in Ft. Lauderdale when I made a wrong turn. One skinny on a bicycle was rolling behind me whistling, and yelling, here he comes, well actually yelling, here he come. You know how verb tense is a challenge to the Amish.
About 100 yards from them I floored it. I was strolling by the time I got to where they would have been, but they cleared out.
