noun - A state of separation from God; exclusion from God's presence.
Funny you post that.
I just stubmled upon John Burke's body of work, notably his books "Imagine Heaven" and "Imagine the God of Heaven."
I can't overstate how monumentaly amazing, moving, uplifting these books are.
Anyway, this topic was recently covered on the Shawn Ryan Show.
Either John Burke or Lee Stroebel (I believe Burke) said;
"The doors to hell are locked from the INSIDE."
He also said (I need to verify this but just repeating what he said & that it impacted me / raised my interest) that hell was NOT created for humans; it was created for angels; fallen angels. God doesn't' want ANY of us to go to hell; it literally tears him apart.
But that's the price of free will; Just like you can't force another human (or animal for that matter) love you; God cannot & will not make anyone love him; you have to choose. You have to decide. You have to WANT to Love God.
Those who refuse & do not want to love God; those are the ones who send themselves to hell.
Again; I need to research this more, but it sounds like virtually anyone can be rescued from hell, at any time, simply by praying to God; asking him for forgiveness, repenting your sins, etc.
I'm sorry I don't remember exactly which interview this was covered in, but it was definitely one of these 2 interviews;
