I'm a gun nut. A .30-06 is an extremely powerful cartridge. If Charlie had been actually hit by this round, the damage would have been catastrophic. Any of you who have hunted with a .30-06 or the slightly less powerful but similar .308 has seen the effects of these rounds on game.

There is virtually no place on the body that you could shoot an elk (or even a horse) with a 30-06 at ~140yds where it would NOT leave an exit wound.

By the very nature of the weight, shape, and velocity of a ('regular/ball') 30-06, it is "inherently armor piercing" at that range to all but high level plate body armor.
