Love that unit. If you ever get to DC during the summer, get tickets to the Friday night parade at the Marine barracks off 8th street. Awe inspiring.
And while I was duly impressed with the pomp and ceremony in Britain, our presentation units are so much better. Lines straighter, salutes crisper...just better.
OK, don't mean to be a nuge, but the British troops did not favor well when compared to the college football band/drill teams playing in my head.
Our mounted units did not compare well with the Saudi/ Middle Eastern equestrian presentations.
We have some mounted units that are used in parades, notably the US Marines (Palaminos and I believe all Mustangs), and the horses of the Old Guard.
What do you mean that they are trained "differently"? Differently than what? There are other mounted drill teams in this country, would a military drill team be trained differently?
Could you use Operant Conditioning? Do you think we could have a unit that does vaulting or Roman riding? The Army used to breed Morgans, surely training manuals and such are in an archive somewhere, although training methods have improved. Do tell...
Awww. I did not know about black jack but certainly saw him. Have attended a full Arlington funeral. Deeply moving. So yes , of course. I am going to look him up. Thank you. A gorgeous horse.
You are obviously more an expert than I, but I remember my grandfather training his teams differently from his working horse, which he did ride in parades. (Possy of cowboys on mounts not attuned to the horses next to them). I was just an observer. I was a scaredy cat in a family of horsemen (and women).
Not an expert; that's why all the questions. I have driven work horses, and they are trained differently than riding horses. Notably, they are trained to voice commands and they know their left from their right. Fun fact: they are trained by men predominately and will not respond to a womans voice until some re-training. It's usually easier for women to lower their voices for commands.
My age is showing, but my father plowed with a mule team and my grandfather trained trotters. He was never called a horse whisperer but it was said there was never a horse he couldn't ride or train. He did trick riding and performed at the Cardston Stampede and Calverton Roundup. He did ride "hippodrome".

We've got to step it up.
Does the US have military horse units for performance? Whole different kind of training involved.

Found this. (Couldn't find the units you mentioned)

Sorry for not being more clear. Marine Corp mounted unit can be seen at the Pasadena Rose Parade 2025. The Old Guard you've seen, I'm sure. They are quartered at Arlington and do the military funerals. If you're older you've seen Black Jack the horse that carried riding boots pointed backwards at JFK's funeral. He was very famous, and even had a Bryer model horse made in his likeness, and a book written about him. https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse1.mm.bing.net%2Fth%2Fid%2FOIP.blBx2TR69NnDFNibYryfMAHaFj%3Fpid%3DApi&f=1&ipt=271ac23fabc6b460cda6226519ca8db5bfedd8fd7653bbc7ea88074968e1e088&ipo=images

Oooh. Nice. I don't know "hippodrome", was it in NY?
Nice surprise for the men and probably the best order from their CINC they will ever get.
Also speaking of surprise, a random Led Zeppelin moment playing in a White House hallway was very cool.
Surprising! LZ shows up in the dangdest places
wow.
