My grandmother was either an infant when her parents came from Sweden, or was born shortly after they immigrated to the U.S. She didn't know much Swedish, but in her final couple of years, after a brain aneurism and resulting dimentia, she spoke quite a bit of Swedish and remembered things from her childhood she hadn't possibly ever remembered until then. The human brain is amazing!
My mother was born and raised in Stockholm and came her when she was 9,so she speakes it fluently. Probably the last immigrant to come over on a boat. I know she had a green card number so low that immigration never saw a number that low.
