The remainder of his troops had to BUILD SHIPS with whatever tools and knowledge they had left after years exploring, to ESCAPE [from Indians] down the Mississippi and finally make it to Mexico! Who of us could now do something like that?? Build ships, navigate to a safe harbor? Hopefully the merchant marine still can! Such a vital skill and vital need!
