They do deserve a lot of credit. I was actually noticing that the President has not talked of the Merchant Marines at all this term (that I have seen.) He spoke of them frequently in his first term and that he wanted to expand them - hope he got a chance to do that.
I mean do you even need to be a Christian to appreciate how a lot of sailors have been through storms, and have felt or seen the presents of a divine figure attributed to Jesus or His angels? It happened in the book Unbroken when he was lost at sea.
You do not need to be a Christian to appreciate and recognize the root and foundation of Western civilization, the immense benefits that Christianity has been agent to, the foundation of the United States, and the heritage that Christian belief represents.
That said, there is only one core critical factor that can let Americans make America great again. That core factor is a collective return to faith in and unity with God. From there, all other benefits and blessings flow.

Our economy is toast without an effective merchant marine and merchant shipping on actual American shipping vessels.
