Yes, I lost my father some 20 years ago, he was a child in Denmark during WWII under Nazi occupation when his father died in the resistance from what I'm told.
He had a few stories he shared with me, shrapnel scars etc, but never have I wished more I could speak with him than the last several years.
Some years after the war he migrated to Canada, met my mother, married and made their way down to the DC area. He wasn't a hateful man but I remember several occasions him saying something to the effect of those damn Jews.
He was also very much out spoken on politics, when I was younger I wasn't politically interested at all and would shut him down with, well, become a citizen and do something and walk away. He became a Canadian citizen and was a resident alien in the US. As I've become more attentive to politics I've also wished we could speak.
However, I'm also glad he wasn't around for the past 10 years or so of habbenings...
I strongly suspect much of history is a fabrication, and as I was reading your reply it popped to mind that The Greatest Generation typically refers to those that fought in WWII, but what if it's because they were the link between old and new world. Think of what they had from their parents, grandparents etc.
Think of how much of the history of just the last hundred and twenty-five years has been deception or events born out of deception
