So my mind goes to Charlie and Erika agreeing to go through all this in order to anchor certain truths into the collective brain in an accelerated fashion. The extreme weirdness of this plan is overwhelming...but it speaks to the illusory nature of our reality. We truly are a population separated by awareness. I'm always contemplating the Star Trek episodes where the surface population isn't yet aware of the intelligent life elsewhere, off-planet. How it correlates to us, here on Earth, and how certain truths will be released with precise timing and in a pre-determined way.
If you're gonna reference Star Trek, you gotta mention Charlie X. Kirk X'd out Charlie in the 2nd Star Trek episode ever. Since the Charlotte thing was around the same time as Charlie got X'd, you should probably also look at episode 18 Arena (which sounds like Iryna) where Kirk defeated the Gorn under a watchful space eye shaped like a G.
Interestingly the final battle from Arena was redone in the '88 Roddy Piper epic (Sam) Hell Comes to Frogtown. I swear they used the same Hollywood backlot. It adds finer details with "greener" minions in turbans and cammo buying illegal arms from "Count Sadam". Plus lotsa flag symbolism with Uncle Sam and the Star Spangled banner and such. They even mentioned a provisional government.
